21 Things I Have Learned at 21

Reflections on over two decades of life -- lessons about technology, spirituality, relationships, and the closed-source vow.

On Technology

  1. The best tool is the one you know deeply
  2. Fundamentals age better than frameworks
  3. Build things, do not just learn things
  4. Read source code more than documentation
  5. Performance matters more than you think

On Spirituality

  1. Morning practice changes everything
  2. Devotion is not separate from work
  3. Community amplifies individual growth
  4. Gratitude is the antidote to comparison
  5. The answers are often in the questions

On Life

  1. Sleep is not optional
  2. Discipline creates freedom
  3. Say no to protect your yes
  4. Mentors accelerate growth exponentially
  5. Your environment shapes your output

On Relationships

  1. Listen more than you speak
  2. Help without expecting returns
  3. Surround yourself with people who challenge you
  4. Be honest, especially when it is uncomfortable
  5. The best relationships are built on shared purpose

The Vow

  1. The Closed-Source Vow: After experiencing the material world's exploitation, I realized my skills belong exclusively to the pleasure of Śrīla Prabhupāda and the devotee community. True fulfillment comes from private, humble service—not open-source clout or commercial gain.

Looking Forward

Twenty-one is young. I know almost nothing. But I have learned enough to know that the journey of learning never ends, and that is the most exciting part.
